CLASS STARTS FEBRUARY 3rd

This 8-week course will go deep into the boarding thought process and general techniques used when working on 2D action shows, with each session lasting somewhere between 1.5-2 hours (may run longer depending on Q&A).

Each lecture will have a weekly assignment related to the topics covered, with each one building on the previous lessons.

Classes will be streamed weekly and there will be a Discord Server available for students to engage with one another.

  • Week 1: Fundamentals of Storytelling
  • Week 2: Shots and Cameras 1
  • Week 3: Shots and Cameras 2:
  • Week 4: Blocking and Acting: The fundamentals of blocking and performance and what to consider when boarding.
  • Week 5: Editing Principles: How to use the principles of editing to improve your boards.
  • Week 6: Action Scenes: Principles of planning an Action Scene.
  • Week 7: PROCESS 1 : How to actually start planning a sequence.
  • Week 8: PROCESS 2: How to execute a sequence. What is a clean board?

COURSE POLICY (PLEASE READ):

  • Lectures will be recorded weekly for you to watch in case you cannot make the live lectured Q&A.
  • Feedback will be pre-recorded.
  • Weekly recordings and downloadable assets will be taken down a month after the class ends
  • NO MAKE-UP HOMEWORK FEEDBACK IF YOU MISS THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE (There will be a strict homework submission policy)
  • NO REFUND (please double check your schedule and make your you can commit to the class)
  • Suggested Materials: Either Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop/or Toon Boom Storyboard Pro (any version), pens, pencils, loose paper. Basically any software you can board in.

About Your Instructor: Danny Araya is currently a Director working at Powerhouse Animation Studios in Austin, Texas. He has worked as a Director, Storyboard Artist, Character Designer, and Background Painter.
